You never really leave home

I left Wisconsin for Colorado 32 years ago.  I’m living a wonderful life in Colorado with an amazing family and dear friends.  But every once in awhile, I get a little homesick.  My trip back to visit family and old friends a couple weeks ago was a lot of things…joyful, tearful, delightful, and even frightful once around the campfire.  We shared wonderful meals, laughter, old stories, and memories.  The people you come from shape who you are.  But the place you come from is the backdrop for all the memories.  The places even become memories themselves…the Queen’s Chair, the Fort, the Res, and the Woods.  On Wisconsin.

  1. Seeing you and spending time with you was the highlight of my summer….no….it was more than that….you lifted my soul back to where it needed to be. I love you to the stars and back.

      Poem #380 – Soul Sisters

Sisters know a special connection …
Each sharing such a great affection.
But sisters need not by blood be connected
For by great love to be affected.

There are those who come across your path
Who make you sing and cry and laugh…
Those special souls who touch your heart,
And play a truly special part.

“Soul sisters” you do call these friends.
Your love for them on naught depends.
Their heart and soul you simply cherish.
Without them you would surely perish.

This is how you feel, at least,
When such a love is thus released—
That God has led you to this one,
Whose light is brighter than the sun.

If you find your sister true,
Cherish what she brings to you,
But know that you do play a role
      In brightening your sister’s soul.

For this your very paths have crossed—
To find the love that’s never lost.
And with this one on whom you rely,
      That love inside does multiply.

  2. I completely agree… you never really leave home. I also posted about this topic because no matter how many years I’ve spent in the New England/New York City area (5), I still look forward to Michigan as if I just left yesterday.

Say what you feel....
